It seems that Australian band Tame Impala is all over the place these days. With one LP released last year, a second only a year later, and a new music video last month; they are becoming fairly popular rather quickly. To add to their lists of accomplishments, in February of 2013, the Australian psychedelic rock band is set to take on North America in support of their October released LP, Lonerism. Starting in New York, New York and ending in Boston, Massachusetts; the tour will consist of locations all along the Eastern side of the United States, as well as a few select stops in Canada, such as Toronto and Montreal.
Tamp Impala’s sophomore LP, Lonerism, seems to take somewhat of a page from the book of The Beatles. The band leader, Kevin Parker’s voice is similar to that of John Lennon; however, that’s not the most poignant comparison. Lonerism seems to directly emulate the sounds of The Beatles’ more psychedelic era, or more specifically their 1966 release, Revolver. Now, I may be somewhat biased as Revolver is one of my favorite Beatles’ records, but Lonerism’s comparisons resonated a great deal for me. Many, many artists have attempted to portray the feel and musicality of that of The Beatles, and very few have been even close to succeeding. However, Tame Impala has done so beautifully; possibly without that even being the intent- the band denies any attempt to be like the Beatles. Getting a chance to see a band that has achieved the near impossible live would be absolutely incredible.
