Comeback: The Postal Service and Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Earlier this week it was announced that The Postal Service are officially getting back together. A website for the duo comprising of Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie and Jimmy Tamborello of Dntel appeared with a simple picture stating: “The Postal Service: 2013”. Billboard has now confirmed that Sub Pop Records will be releasing a deluxe edition of The Postal Service’s sole album from 2003, Give Up, next month, in order to celebrate the record’s ten year anniversary. Later in the week, the website confirmed that the band is booked to play this year’s Coachella Music Festival in California, which had been previously rumored, as well as Barcelona’s Primavera Sound. However, according to Billboard, as both members have stated dozens of times, there are and will still be no plans for another Postal Service LP.

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs haven’t exactly been giving out the details of their next step as a band since the end of their It’s Blitz! Tour- that is not until this week. Band members Karen O, Brian Chase, and Nick Zinner have confirmed their fourth full-length album, Mosquito, is set to arrive on April 16 this year. Now if the prospect of a new Yeah Yeah Yeahs album wasn’t exciting enough, apparently one track has been produced by LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy (How awesome is that???). The album is said to bringing back the band’s original sound, like that of their first incredible self-titled EP. Karen O told Spin Magazine, “We took a more playful, lo-fi approach to songwriting. Much of the music was demoed in our little basement studio in Manhattan with drum machines, a shitty sample keyboard and tons of delay — which we called the soup.” Being an avid Yeah Yeah Yeahs fan since I was ten, this album is definitely going to be number one on my listen to obtain upon its release.

Here is the album’s killer, cool cover art designed by South Korean artist and filmmaker Beomsik Shimbe Shim:
